The first season of the 'Boy Meets World' American sitcom shows the lead character Cory Matthews played by Ben Savage attending a Philadelphia school with his best friend Shawn Hunter played by Rider Strong. Both of them hate to attend Mr.Feeny's classes and try every trick to avoid the same. Cory has an elder brother named Eric. Unlike Cory he is quite popular at school and he studies in the 10th grade. The second season shows both Cory and Shawn graduating to high school where they meet Mr. Turner, who is their English teacher. Mr. Turner doesn't like Mr. Fleeny and so the boys get closer to him.

Gradually Shawn turns into a smart boy and becomes popular. On the other hand Cory is not so popular as his friend but both of them remain close friends irrespective of this difference. Shawn had to face a family tragedy. He becomes upset when his mother deserts both him and his father and goes off. Shawn's father sets out in search of his wife and Shawn is left alone. Finally Shawn decides to live with his English teacher Mr. Jonathan Turner for the time being.

Meanwhile there is something happening between Cory and Topanga in the third season. Topanga is shown as Cory's childhood sweetheart whom he eventually marries when he reaches adulthood. Actually Topanga was there in the first season itself but at that time she was looked down upon by both Cory and Shawn. The reason for this was disclosed in the fourth season. Eric, Cory's brother had given him a wrong impression about girls and so Cory initially developed bad feelings about Topanga. Even then Cory and Topanga had their share of break ups in between till they decide to stay together for good.

When Eric completes his high school graduation he decides to take a year off to plan his future. Both the brothers embark on a road trip one summer and when they return back home they find their father planning to set up a sports goods store. He does so after leaving his job and takes Eric as his partner.
